How to organize your thunks into folders

File your thunks in folders on the home page, browse and search them, and move a thunk from one folder to another

When you have many thunks, folders keep the home page manageable. You can file each thunk in one folder, such as finance › invoices, and browse your thunks the way you browse files.

A folder is part of where a thunk is filed, not something you create on its own. You make a folder by moving a thunk into it, and a folder disappears when the last thunk in it (or below it) moves out.

Browse your folders

On the home page, the Folders section of the menu has two places to start:

  • Owned shows the thunks you own.

  • Shared shows the thunks other people share with you. Samples sits under it and lists the sample thunks, without folders.

Above the list, a breadcrumb shows where you are, and the folders inside the current one appear as buttons with the number of thunks in each, counting the folders below it. Select a folder to open it, or a name in the breadcrumb to go back up. The browser's back button also walks back up through the folders you opened.

The list shows only the thunks filed directly in the folder you are in. At the top of Owned, that means the thunks you haven't put in any folder, so if you never use folders, the home page looks the same as before.

The other menu entries (All, and the By Phase and By Type views) list every thunk that matches, whatever folder it is in.

Move a thunk to a folder

  1. On the home page, open the ⋮ (more actions) menu on the thunk and select Move….

  2. In Folder, type the folder path, such as finance/invoices. Slashes separate the levels. The list under the field suggests folders that already exist, and the line beneath it shows where the thunk will go.

  3. Select Move.

To take a thunk out of every folder, clear the Folder field and select Move.

Only the thunk's owner and its admins see Move…. A thunk is filed in one folder, and everyone who can see it sees it in that same folder. Folder names are case-sensitive: Invoices and invoices are two different folders, so pick from the suggestions when you can.

Search across folders

When you type in the search box while you are in a folder, the list shows matching thunks in that folder and in every folder below it. At the top of Owned or Shared, a search covers all of them. Clear the search to go back to the folder's own list.

In the table view, the Tags column starts with the folder each thunk is filed in, so you can tell search results from different folders apart. The folder you are browsing is not repeated on every row.

Copies and folders

When you copy one of your own thunks, the copy is filed in the same folder as the original. A copy of someone else's thunk, or of a sample, starts at the top of Owned, because their folder names mean nothing among yours. See How to copy a thunk.

Folders for thunks that AI agents build

An AI coding agent that builds thunks through the Builder MCP, such as Claude Code or Codex, can file the thunks it creates in a folder, move them, and list a folder's thunks. It keeps the thunks of one project together in a folder and tells you which one. See Build thunks from Claude Code or Codex.
